The 3 Types of Computer Gaming Chairs

In my journey of finding the perfect gaming seat, I’ve come to realize one thing: there are three types of computer gaming chairs.

And they certainly fit different personality (or even room design) types. I hope you’ll agree with me.

The Office-Chair-Turned-Gaming-Seat

Yes, the office-chair-turned-gaming-seat is a thing.

Essentially, these are your typical office swivel chairs, turned into gaming seats. These are often neutral in color, mostly black, but sometimes brown, gray, or even white. Yes they are adjustable, but often times limited to height and back seat adjustments.

Office chairs are the most basic “gaming seat” you will find. They are the most affordable among the three types (except for those high-end executive chairs), but they do the job of keeping you comfortable quite well.

The “Gaming” Seat

This type of chair is the epitome of the so-called “computer gaming chair”, Derived from the design of racing car seats, the Gaming Seat is designed by gamers, for gamers. The most famous brands include DXRacer and NeedForSeat.

The true Gaming Seat and the Office-Chair-Turned-Gaming-Seat are almost similar in nature, but to fully understand their difference, one must realize this: Gaming Seats are just office chairs in steroids.

Like office chairs, computer gaming chairs have adjustable parts…but maxed to the limit. Armrests that are adjustable in 5 directions , back seat with 170-degree tilt, and other movable parts are some features you won’t find in a typical office chair.

I personally prefer this type, but buying one does require a bit of investment as the average gaming seat costs about $350. They do last for a couple of years however, so it’s worth it in my opinion.

The “Hulk”

This type puts you in a bind. A Hulk is a gaming table, a seat, and a bed merged into one beastly abomination. I can’t even describe this monstrosity to you so I’ll let the pictures do the talking:

This won’t even fit in my room.

3 monitors for and a weird bed/seat. This setup is bad for posture because the seat doesn’t look like it’s adjustable.

This one looks better. It seems to have adjustable parts and it’s pretty compact too. The only downside is the price tag. These bad boys can go up to $1000 or more.

If ergonomic principles are applied in the workplace, people will be more productive. That’s basically the entire reason for the use of ergonomic furniture.

Today’s generation spends plenty of time sitting in front of a computer, especially office workers and gaming enthusiasts. These people invest in buying the most responsive mouse and keyboards or the widest LCD monitors, but few of them know the true value of having a comfortable and proper seating posture. The unhealthy habits caused by seating for prolonged periods usually leads to pain and discomfort, especially in the back and neck areas which in turn diminishes productivity. Of course, you should take a 15-minute break every 1 hour of computer-ing, but the right posture will keep your back and neck areas healthy day in and out.

What makes a computer gaming chair ergonomic? Here are some bullet points that may interest you:

• The better-quality chairs have several available models that are tailored to different height and weight specifications. For example, DXRacers have about 6 series, all of which caters to different heights and weights.
• Good gaming seats are designed with the human body in mind. Because each body is different, most computer gaming chairs are  made with adjustable parts – armrests and backrests are just some of the adjustable parts of a nice chair.
• Nice, quality padding. Low-quality gaming chairs have seat padding that shrink after several hours of pressure. Good chairs do not and they also allow air circulation so your butt won’t feel like an oven after 2 hours.

Choosing A Chair

According to http://mycomputergamingchair.com, it is important to know what features and factors must be weighed in before choosing a computer gaming chair. According to the website I mentioned above there are 4 criteria that must be satisfied:

1. Ergonomic – The chair should be able to adjust to your body specification and preferences. You shouldn’t adjust to it.
2. Adjustability – The chair should have adjustable parts to cater to your preferences. Armrests, height, and back tilt are some of the more important parts that need to be adjustable.
3. Price – The chair should be worthy of it’s price tag. It’s not all about finding a cheap chair and saying you got a bargain – it’s about getting your money’s worth.
4. Style – It’s not a gaming chair if it’s not stylish. Don’t buy a lame one!

These 4 criteria are essentially what they use to review chairs.
